Mentoring meetings: the training “Artificial intelligence and translation: pros and cons of interaction” took place at Petro Mohyla ChN University within the framework of the PROMENT project

On November 14, 2024, as part of the implementation of the EU Erasmus+ project 101082696 – PROMENT “Promotion of professional education and active participation of students through the establishment of a comprehensive system of mentoring and tutoring in higher education institutions” under the scheme “Mentoring of young teachers” in a mixed format, the training “Artificial intelligence and translation: pros and cons of interaction” for mentee students of the Faculty of Philology of Petrograd National University graves
The mentor was Victoria Ageeva-Karkashadze, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor of the Department of English Philology and Translation of Petro Mohyla National University of Ukraine.
The moderator of the event was Halyna Kosareva, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor of the department of Ukrainian philology and intercultural communication, executor of the PROMENT project.
The purpose of the event was to acquaint students with the specifics of such a phenomenon as “artificial intelligence” and the features of its use in the translation of artistic texts, as well as in the process of audiovisual translation.
During the training, relevant information on the applied nature of AI tools was presented, the specifics of its work with texts were discussed, and the advantages and disadvantages of using artificial intelligence in the translation process were practically proven. Students also got acquainted with different types of artificial intelligence for working with texts of different functional styles.
Therefore, this event provided an opportunity to acquire professional competences, in particular, mastering modern knowledge in the field of practical application of AI during translation, the ability to critically analyze approaches to the use of artificial intelligence, familiarization with modern artificial intelligence systems.
Note that such meetings of mentors with tutors and mentees will continue within the project and will become an important component on the way to their professional growth.
