Background

The university T&M system will function on the basis of an integrated set of methods, algorithms, and procedures enriched with the dedicated IT-platform, university organisational structures, trained staff and active senior students. In complex, it will become an element of the sustainable educational process that will develop and improve students’ hard and soft skills, as well as active engagement in civic life.

The project activities are focused on developing basic tutoring and mentoring schemes, installing T&M centres, developing teaching/learning materials and tools, training academic staff, students and mentors from industry, as well as cooperating between targeted HEIs through the internationalisation of partners’ expertise, and strengthen their relations with the wider socioeconomic environment.

The primary actors of the T&M system are defined as follow:

Mentor – an experienced and trusted adviser who teaches or gives help and advice to students

Mentee – is a university student who is mentored by the mentor to train new skills to achieve learning goals.

Tutor – is a university senior-year student who provides support to the tutee.

Tutee – is a first-year student with fewer opportunities who needs support with adaptation to the university environment.

Project Consortium

The Consortium brings together education- and business-oriented organizations that deliver excellent mutually beneficial results.
Given its diverse expertise and geographic location, the consortium offers a multifaceted approach, complementing each other’s mission and expertise to support student professional development for 10 higher education institutions from 6 countries and 6 industrial partners.
4 universities from Ukraine and 2 universities from Georgia united the idea of testing the T&M system of professional development of students.
Industrial partners of the universities welcomed the idea of adding a practical component to the organization of the initial process outside of traditional classes.

Lviv Polytechnic National University (LPNU) expertise relevant to this project is related to: strong working relations with various stakeholders in Ukraine, developing cross-sectoral partnership, for development of strategies and tools for sustainable impact for young people; experience in testing mentorship programs; deep understanding of Ukrainian students’ needs & those who work for/with them. LPNU is the largest university in Ukraine. It consists of 18 institutes including 106 academic departments, has about 34,000 students, 600 PhD candidates. The educational process is provided by a faculty of about 2200 staff members, 280 of whom are professors (holding Dr.Sc. degree) and over 1200 associate professors (holding Ph.D. degree). Since 1961 LPNU trains international students and at present there are more than 300 students from 20 countries. University is a member of the following international organisations: Magna Charta Universitatum; European University Association, Alliance of Universities for Democracy, Association of Carpathian Region Universities, Board of European Students of Technology; Association des Etats Généraux des Etudiants de l’Europe / European Students’ Forum. LPNU is a leading in Ukraine in implementation of a new educational paradigm – student-centred education and competence-based approach in development and realisation of educational programmes. Dnipro University of Technology ( DniproTech) expertise relevant to this project is based on its membership in the international educational and scientific organisations and networks (EUA, BSUN, EAGE, IUR, IGIP, SEFI, WMC, WFURS and others). University has a strong cooperation network with leading regional state and private enterprises, which provides a platform for joint practical study and research projects for students and staff. DniproTech runs a unique for the Dnipropetrovsk region Center for Entrepreneurship Development “Business Incubator”, which is aimed at promoting entrepreneurship opportunities for youth providing mentoring support for young entrepreneurs and youth with innovative ideas. Teachers in DniproTech use international experience, non-formal education methods and mentoring practices within the formal education process.

Relevant expertise of the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University (CPNU) is connected to the specifics of the university. To support students’ competence building University`s structure includes Student social service, Startup Club “YEP”, Google Developer student club, laboratory “FinLab”. To promote students’ employability University`s Career Development Centre jointly with EU Information Centre organise annual Career days involving employers. CPNU actively collaborates with the Association of IT enterprises of the Chernihiv region “Chernihiv IT Cluster” in the direction of holding IT business conference, IT student contests. It is the only multiple-discipline educational and research centre in the region with a system of continuous education including 2 Colleges, 7 Educational and Research Institutes, the Centre of Postgraduate Education and Advanced Training, Business-Innovation Centre, postgraduate and doctoral studies.

Shota Rustaveli State University (BSU) is a multi-functional educational and scientific institution that is successfully engaged in the areas of Natural Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, Mathematical and Computer Sciences, Engineering, Technologies, Business and Public Health as well as agricultural fields. Unified space of academic and professional education and research is created through the cooperation of students, professors, teachers and researchers. A number of teaching-research projects of international and national significance have been accomplished on the university base. Georgian Technical University (GTU) is the biggest technical public university in Georgia and one of the biggest educational and scientific institutions in the South Caucasian region. GTU has relevant experience of participating in EU-funded capacity building projects (15 Tempus, 8 CBHE) as well as Horizon/FP7 programmes. Georgian Technical University has also been very active in the framework of Erasmus+ Programme within KA1 by collaborating with well-known European Universities in more than 50 mobility projects. GTU has advanced partnerships in the fields of education and research with the world’s leading organisations, such as KEK (Japan), Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH (Germany), CERN (Switzerland) and JINR – Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna). Silesian University of Technology (SUT), the oldest technical university in the region and one of the most prestigious in Poland. SUT is honoured with HR Logo. In 2019 SUT as one of 10 Polish universities (out of over 400) got a research university recognition by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, after a thorough evaluation by an international board.
The SUT College of Studies is responsible for the mentoring program for the graduates of secondary schools undertaking studies at the Silesian University of Technology. The essence of the program is to create conditions for its participants for the existence of a mentor-participant relationship, where the mentor acts as a guide, advisor supporting the mentee in the development of substantive competences, as well as those related to personal development. SUT offers individual mentoring programs to most active students in the form of Individual Course of Studies, in most of the cases involving Project Based Learning approach. This individualised education had been granted to over 600 SUT students over the last 3 years. SUT is realising NCBiR (National Center of Research and Development) POWER 3.5/1 and POWER 3.5/2 (with the overall budget est. 70 M PLN) which enhance students’ skills by trainings, placements and innovative forms of studies.

Università degli Studi di Perugia (UNIPG) is one of the oldest universities in Italy, offering a wide variety of courses in all fields of education. The high level of research, education and services offered has been certified by the CENSIS Ranking (Italian Centre for Studies on Social Investments), with the University holding the first position, for the seventh year in a row, among large Italian Universities. The FISSUF department of the UNIPG is an organisation that carries out its ordinary activities by offering specific degree courses in tutoring as well as several lines of research in the two doctoral schools that offer the department. The areas involved are pedagogical, psychological, and philosophical sciences and culture. International and interdisciplinary research centres operate in the Department FISSUF where numerous monitoring tutoring activities take place in the areas of education; training; special education; health and well-being; human and social relations and economics. University of Aveiro (UA) has been a member of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities, the ECIU, since 1998 as well as several other international university networks of excellence and, since 2019, a member of the ECIU University under the EU Universities initiative. UA has participated in the Erasmus Programme since 1987, having coordinated projects of most actions while participating in Erasmus Mundus joint master courses in several fields. During the Erasmus+ Programme 2014-2020, UA participated in 98 projects (23 as the coordinating institution). Association “Lviv Cluster of Information Technology and Business Services” (Lviv IT Cluster) is a long-term partner of the LPNU. Lviv IT Cluster runs several educational projects, namely: IT Expert Program, 17 bachelor’s programs at universities, Lviv IT Cluster Academy, which is the beginning of vocational education reforming. The IT Future Mentors project was initiated by the Lviv City Council in 2020, but due to Covid-19 it was not possible to fully launch the project. The Lviv IT Cluster works in the following directions: popularisation of the IT sphere among Lviv students; career guidance; development of hard and soft skills of students; practical use of students’ knowledge; assistance in the implementation of the first practical projects.

Department of Education and Science of the Mykolayiv regional state administration (DESMRSA) – the industrial partner of the PMBSNU. DESMRSA’s expertise relevant to this project is based on experience in monitoring of the employee retraining system in the field of education; mediation of information dissemination between authorities, public organisations and educational institutions; organisation of methodological seminars for teachers of generally secondary schools and professional colleges; development and implementation of advanced training courses for teachers and secondary school and professional colleges management.

Chernihiv IT Cluster is a community union of the companies in the field of information technologies (Chernihiv IT). Chernihiv IT mission is to improve the conditions for the development and promotion of the IT industry in the region by improving the level and quality of specialised education, promoting Chernihiv as a comfortable location for IT business and uniting IT companies with common values. The partner’s expertise relevant to this project is related to a number of educational and social programs in cooperation with Chernihiv Polytechnic University, local NGOs and other stakeholders. Chernihiv IT conducts educational events for all those who want to improve their professional level in IT and related fields. Twice a year Chernihiv IT holds a programming competition for university students. The purpose of the competition is to pump programming skills and test them in real conditions.
