On April 17, 2025, within the framework of the implementation of the EU Erasmus+ project 101082696 – PROMENT “Promoting professional education and active participation of students through the formation of a comprehensive system of mentoring and tutoring in higher education institutions” under the scheme “Mentoring of young teachers”, the training “Public speaking as a skill: working on the main elements of effective communication” was held in an offline format.

Professional and charismatic mentor, oratorical trainer, teacher of stage disciplines, actress of the Mykolaiv Academic Art Drama Theater, Honored Artist of Ukraine Vasilyeva Marina helped students develop and improve their public speaking and effective communication skills.

At the beginning of the meeting, Halyna Kosareva, coordinator of the “Mentoring of Young Teachers” program, associate professor of the Department of Ukrainian Philology and Intercultural Communication, and executor of the PROMENT project, made an introductory speech, emphasizing the relevance of the training and its practice-oriented nature.

The event was held in collaboration with the Educational and Scientific Institute of Public Management and Administration (ENSPAA) with the participation and support of Andriyash Viktoriya, professor of the Department of Public Management and Administration, implementer of the PROMENT project.

The participants of the training were mentees, the student community of the Faculty of Philology, and the National Institute of Political Science and Law.

The goal of the training was to develop students’ rhetorical competencies, as well as effective communication skills, which will contribute to personal and professional growth in their future profession.

During the event, students had a unique opportunity to learn about the elements of effective communication as the basis of a successful speech, psychological preparation for public speaking, and also learned the basic rules of public speaking and practical ways to overcome psychophysical barriers during speeches.

Mentor Marina Vasilyeva focused on current breathing techniques and the importance of articulation gymnastics for students. In addition, during the training, the audience participated in practical cases that improved the students’ articulation skills and contributed to their psycho-emotional relief.

It should be noted that during the event, the mentor created a positive space for students to collaborate through live group work, skillfully combined theoretical information with her practical cases, and the emotional support of the training became balanced.

Therefore, this event provided an opportunity to deepen knowledge and acquire practical skills in effective communication and public speaking that can be used in the students’ future professional activities.
