Mentoring meetings at Petro Mohyla National University: another session of PROMENT project events took place

On October 24, 2024, on the basis of the Tutoring and Mentoring Center, another session of activities “Basics of tutoring in institutions of higher education and the center of tutoring and mentoring” took place within the framework of the EU Erasmus+ project 101082696-PROMENT “Promotion of professional education and active participation of students through the establishment of a comprehensive system of mentoring and tutoring at ZVO”.
The main speaker was Kateryna Palyut, chief specialist of the Department of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports of Doroshiv Village Council, secretary of the Youth Council of Doroshiv Village Council, delegate of the NGO “Ukrainian Association of Youth Councils”.
The main goal of the meeting is to discuss issues related to the clarification and analysis of the peculiarities of the adaptation of young specialists in local self-government bodies.
The speaker emphasized that the war in the country led to significant adjustments in the work of local self-government bodies.
One of the most acute problems was the mass migration of the population, which led to an extremely acute shortage of personnel, especially in rural communities.
She also emphasized the need to create such conditions so that young specialists do not seek a better fate in other communities. Based on their own experience, they analyzed and revealed the peculiarities of adaptation at a new workplace in a completely new, unfamiliar community.
At the meeting, the speaker focused on measures that can help better adapt to the new workplace, in particular: financial incentives, recognition of merit, opportunities for training and development, individual approach to each employee.
In addition, the speaker emphasized the key stages of adaptation at the workplace: introduction to the course of affairs, introduction to the team, detailed explanation of job duties, provision of necessary resources and development of an individual development plan.
At the end of the meeting, Ms. Kateryna answered the questions and noted that only effective adaptation will increase employee loyalty, stimulate a decrease in staff turnover, increase labor productivity and improve the image of local self-government bodies as an attractive employer for modern youth.
