On October 18, 2024, as part of the implementation of the EU Erasmus+ project 101082696 – PROMENT “Promotion of professional education and active participation of students through the establishment of a comprehensive system of mentoring and tutoring in higher education institutions” under the “Mentoring of young teachers” scheme, a master class was held “What is the quintamodel of the NUS lesson and what about do it?” for students-mentees of the Faculty of Philology of the Petro Mohyla National University.
Antonina Koveneva, a teacher of the Ukrainian language and literature and the integrated course of literature at the Mykolaiv Lyceum named after Oleg Olzhych, a teacher of the highest category, a “methodist teacher”, a certified trainer of the National Academy of Sciences on the topic “Tools and modern approaches of the National Academy of Sciences” and the course “Learn: about remote and blended learning.”
The moderator of the event was Halyna Kosareva, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor of the Department of Ukrainian Philology and Intercultural Communication, executor of the PROMENT project.
The event is devoted to the development of the professional competences of future teachers who will work with students in ZZSO according to the concept of the New Ukrainian School (NUS).
At the beginning of the event, Galina Kosareva invited the event participants to present themselves with the help of an interactive case and reflect on their expectations from the workshop, creating the prerequisites for effective student communication.
It is appropriate to emphasize that one of the key competencies in the context of NUS is information and digital, therefore, during the workshop, the trainer offered various interactive methods for the interaction of the participants of the event in a mixed format.
According to Antonina Koveneva, “during the workshop, I used an activity approach. During the event, we performed various interactive exercises, after each one we went to the virtual teacher’s room for discussion. She shared with the mentee the tricks of NUS. And already at the end of the class, those present got acquainted with the quinta model of the NUS lesson – at this time, all the puzzles of the meeting came together perfectly.”
Therefore, this event was an opportunity not only to gain new knowledge about methods, tools, methods of teaching at NUS, but also to develop soft-skills of students, in particular, the skills of active listening, effective communication, team interaction, etc.
Note that such meetings between mentors and mentee students will continue within the framework of the project and will become an important component on the way to their professional growth.
